ANTIQUES & JEWELS ART GALLERY (290 N. Milledge Ave.) New paintings by Mary Porter, Greg Benson, Chatham Murray, Candle Brumby, Lana Mitchell and more.

ART ON THE SIDE GALLERY AND GIFTS (17 N. Main St., Watkinsville) A gallery featuring works by various artists in media including ceramics, paintings and fused glass.

ATHENS ACADEMY (1281 Spartan Lane) In the Bertelsmann Gallery, Southern Star Studio hosts a collection of ceramic works by studio artists. Through Oct. 5. • In the Myers Gallery, Amy Wilmoth Watts shares paintings while Jack Kehoe shares sculptures. Through Oct. 26. • In the Harrison Lobby Gallery, Elizabeth Barton shares quilts and watercolors. Through June. • In the Lampkin Lobby Gallery, a permanent exhibition showcases Greek and Italian photography and artwork.

ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY LIBRARY (2025 Baxter St.) “Pure Expression: The Art Ability of Hillary Middleton.” Through October. 

ATHENS INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART (ATHICA) (675 Pulaski St., Suite 1200) The gallery reopens in its new location with “The Golden Record: Far Beyond Our Galaxy,” an exhibition inspired by the Golden Record compilations traveling aboard the Voyager vessels. Through Oct. 7. 

ATHENS LATINO CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND SERVICES (445 Huntington Rd., #120) See 20 paintings by Stanley Bermudez. 

BENDZUNAS GLASS (89 W. South Ave., Comer) The family-run studio has been creating fine art glass for almost 40 years. 

CINÉ BARCAFE (234 W. Hancock Ave.) Don Chambers shares a collection of watercolors. Through September.

CIRCLE GALLERY (UGA College of Environment and Design, 285 S. Jackson St.) “Hearing the Trees” features mixed media paintings by Katherine Mitchell. “In the Garden of Biotanical Delights” shows ceramic pieces by Diane Kempler. Opening reception Oct. 3. Through Dec. 7. 

CITY OF WATKINSVILLE (Downtown Watkinsville) “Public Art Watkinsville: A Pop-up Sculpture Exhibit” consists of sculptures placed in prominent locations around downtown. Artists include Benjamin Lock, William Massey, Stan Mullins, Robert Clements, Harold Rittenberry and Joni Younkins-Herzog. • “Artscape Oconee: The Monuments of Artland” features a total of 20 paintings on panels installed around town. Artists include Claire Clements, Peter Loose, Andy Cherewick, Lisa Freeman, Manda McKay and others.

CLASSIC CENTER (300 N. Thomas St.) Gallery I shows “Stitch,” an exhibition of contemporary quilts, includes the industrial-scales of Elizabeth Barton, the obsessive geometric precision of Barbette Houser, the vibrant sewn gardens of Cleo Ward, the magic and mischief of Danielle Lasker and the meditative devotion of Anne Marie Vencill. Classic Gallery II features a solo exhibition of detailed portraits by Jaquelynn Faass. 

CREATURE COMFORTS BREWERY (271 W. Hancock Ave.) Organized in collaboration with “free artist” Athulhu, “The Gift” features 50 individual works of art from over two dozen Athens and Atlanta artists who participate in the free art movement. Through Oct. 14.

DONDEROS’ KITCHEN (590 N. Milledge Ave.) Susan Pelham’s collages are influenced by Magic Realism, Surrealism and fables.

GEORGIA MUSEUM OF ART (90 Carlton St.) “For Home and Country: World War I Posters from the Blum Collection.” Through Nov. 18. • “Vernacular Modernism: The Photography of Doris Ulmann.” Through Nov. 18. • “One Heart, One Way: The Journey of a Princely Art Collection” includes fine and decorative arts dating from ca. 1660–1952 from the family of Russian Princes Belosselsky-Belozersky. Through Jan. 6.

GLASSCUBE@INDIGO (500 College Ave.) Jaime Bull’s site-specific installation “Pillow Fight” is a spirited remembrance of jumping on beds and swinging feather filled cushions in a playful bout. A light-show begins each night at 7 p.m. Through October.

HEIRLOOM CAFE & FRESH MARKET (815 N. Chase St.) “Worker Series, Part One” features watercolors by Susie Burch. Through Nov. 5. 

HIP VINTAGE & HANDMADE (215 Commerce Blvd.) A silent auction of art guitars will benefit Guitars Not Guns. Guitars have been decorated by B-52’s’ Cindy Wilson, Pylon’s Vanessa Hay, Nana Grizol’s Matte Catharte, John Lawson, Tex Crawford and more. Reception Oct. 6. Through October.

LAMAR DODD SCHOOL OF ART (270 River Rd.) “Middleground” features work by Phillip McClure, Kate Burke, CC Calloway and Ally Christmas. Through Oct. 5. • “Exchange, Change, Interchange” explores the nature of portfolio exchanges among printmakers. Through Oct. 5. • “The Florida Room” features works by students from the Sunshine State. Through Oct. 5. • New York artist Marie Lorenz’s “Ash Heap / Landfill” is a gallery-sized landslide made of unfired clay and fired “ceramic trash.” Through Nov. 8.

LOWERY GALLERY (2400 Booger Hill Rd., Danielsville) The gallery celebrates “24 Years of Art” with Giclee prints, originals, photographs and sculptures by over 24 artists including Claire Clements, Ben Rouse, Peter Loose, Kip Ramey and more.

LYNDON HOUSE ARTS CENTER (293 Hoyt St.) “Picturing the Black Fantastic” presents drawings, paintings, sculpture and installations by Alfred Conteh, Shanequa Gay, Donté Hayes, Vitus Shell, Dante Yarbrough and more. Through Oct. 13. • “Present and Accounted For: 1968–2018” presents works by original members of the US Artist Collective, a group established to honor the legacy of Darlyne Killian, who became the first African American student to graduate with an art degree from UGA in 1968. Through Oct. 14. • “So It Goes: Works by Lisa Freeman” is an exhibition of paintings and assemblages featuring small-scale clay figures inspired by the paintings. Through Oct. 27. • In the Lounge Gallery, “The End of a Perfect Day” contains photographs of tailgating events by Shawn Campbell. • John Cleaveland shares a collection of oil paintings documenting current day sites of World War I battles. MADISON MORGAN CULTURAL CENTER (434 S. Main St., Madison) “South by South” features oil paintings by post-impressionist Alice Williams. Through Jan. 20. 

NORMAL BOOKS (1238A Prince Ave.) A variety of art on display, including paintings by Mary Eaton, GCH Pet Portraits, metal art by Julia Vereen and ceramics by Shannon Dominy. 

OCONEE CULTURAL ARTS FOUNDATION (OCAF) (34 School St., Watkinsville) “David & Goliath: OCAF’s Annual Small Works and their Colossal Counterparts” offers pieces of nontraditional sizes, either smaller than 14”x14” or larger than 48”x48.” “Warrior Women: From Invisible to Formidable with a Nod to #MeToo” and “Transitions: Vessels for Sam” are two separate bodies of work by ceramicist Alice Woodruff. Opening reception Oct. 5. Through Nov. 6.

RICHARD B. RUSSELL JR. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARIES (300 S. Hull St.) Photographer Lee Karen Stow’s exhibit “Poppies: Women, War, Peace” combines portraits of women whose lives have been affected by war with a botanical series of the red “Flanders Fields” poppy. Through Dec. 14. • “War of Words: Propaganda of World War I” includes propaganda posters. Through Dec. 14.

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA GAINESVILLE CAMPUS (3820 Mundy Mill Rd.) “Art Rosenbaum: Portraits, 1970s to 2018” includes over a dozen large portraits of artists, musicians, students and other friends. Opening reception Oct. 4.

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA OCONEE CAMPUS GALLERY (1201 Bishop Farms Pkwy., Watkinsville) The “UNG Department of Visual Arts: Faculty Biennial” ranges from drawing and painting, to ceramics and sculpture, printmaking, video and mixed media works. Through Oct. 18.
