ART ON THE SIDE GALLERY AND GIFTS (17 N. Main St., Watkinsville) A gallery featuring works by various artists in media including ceramics, paintings and fused glass.

ATHENS ACADEMY (1281 Spartan Lane) “Reflections of Good and Evil” features paintings by Manda McKay and Andrea Wellnitz. Reception Feb. 24. Currently on view through February. • In the Harrison Lobby Gallery, Elizabeth Barton shares quilts and watercolors. Through June. • In the Lampkin Lobby Gallery, a permanent exhibition showcases Greek and Italian photography and artwork. 

ATHENS ART AND FRAME (1021 Parkway Blvd.) Heidi Hensley’s paintings depict colorful and eclectic scenes of Athens and UGA.

ATHENS INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART (ATHICA) (675 Pulaski St., Suite 1200) The 2018-19 Members’ Showcase includes two-dimensional and three-dimensional works in various media by over 30 supporting members including Richard Huston, June Ball, Julia Wynn Safer, John English and Helen Kuykendall. Through Feb. 10.

ATHENS LATINO CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND SERVICES (445 Huntington Rd., #120) See 20 paintings by Stanley Bermudez. 

BENDZUNAS GLASS (89 W. South Ave., Comer) The family-run studio has been creating fine art glass for almost 40 years. 

CINÉ BARCAFE (234 W. Hancock Ave.) “Cameron Lyden: The Wave Tamer’s Lullaby and Other Artifacts” includes fictional tools with ambiguous and fantastical functions. Through Feb. 24.

CIRCLE GALLERY (UGA College of Environment and Design, 285 S. Jackson St.) “The New American Garden: The Landscape Architecture of Oehme, van Sweden.” Through Feb. 21.

CITY OF WATKINSVILLE (Downtown Watkinsville) “Public Art Watkinsville: A Pop-up Sculpture Exhibit” consists of sculptures placed in prominent locations around downtown. Artists include Benjamin Lock, William Massey, Stan Mullins, Robert Clements, Harold Rittenberry and Joni Younkins-Herzog. • “Artscape Oconee: The Monuments of Artland” features a total of 20 paintings on panels installed around town. Artists include Claire Clements, Peter Loose, Andy Cherewick, Lisa Freeman, Manda McKay and others.

CLASSIC CENTER (300 N. Thomas St.) Gallery I shows “Stitch,” an exhibition of contemporary quilts, includes the industrial-scales of Elizabeth Barton, the obsessive geometric precision of Barbette Houser, the vibrant sewn gardens of Cleo Ward, the magic and mischief of Danielle Lasker and the meditative devotion of Anne Marie Vencill. Classic Gallery II features a solo exhibition of detailed portraits by Jaquelynn Faass. 

CREATURE COMFORTS BREWERY (271 W. Hancock Ave.) “The Head and the Art” is a showcase of interdisciplinary collaborations between artists and scientists. Closing reception Jan. 27.

GEORGIA MUSEUM OF ART (90 Carlton St.) “Richard Hunt: Synthesis.” Through Feb. 3. • “One Heart, One Way: The Journey of a Princely Art Collection” includes Russian fine and decorative arts dating from ca. 1660–1952 from the family of the Russian Princes Belosselsky-Belozersky. Through Feb. 10. • “The Reluctant Autocrat: Tsar Nicholas II.” Through Mar. 17. • “Out of the Darkness: Light in the Depths of the Sea of Cortez” is a solo exhibition by Rebecca Rutstein. GLASSCUBE@INDIGO (500 College Ave.) “Solar System (dad, you came to earth a long time ago)” is a site-specific installation by Trevor Reese utilizing miscellaneous furnishings, colored lights and mirrors.

HEIRLOOM CAFE & FRESH MARKET (815 N. Chase St.) John Weber presents nature photographs emphasizing special attention given to shapes, textures, colors and light. Through Mar. 4.

HOWARD’S (119 N. Jackson St.) New York-based artists Genesis Belanger, Julie Curtiss and Anthony Iacono work in different media and share an affinity for French 19th-century painting, pop art, cinema and the Chicago Imagists. Through Mar. 2. • Co-presented with Tif Sigfrids, “Cabin Boy, Auntie Gladyce and Three More” is an exhibition of paintings by Chicago-based artist Margot Bergman. Through Mar. 2.

JITTERY JOE’S ALPS (1480 Baxter St.) Susan Sellew creates fiber art constructions from crocheted acrylic yarn stretched over hula hoops. Through Feb. 7. 

JITTERY JOE’S DOWNTOWN (297 E. Broad St.) Susan Pelham creates collages influenced by Magic Realism, Surrealism and folklore. Through February.

LAMAR DODD SCHOOL OF ART (270 River Rd.) “La Mostra” shares artwork produced by students and faculty during their sojourn at UGA’s residential center in Cortona, Italy. Closing reception Jan. 26.

LOWERY GALLERY (2400 Booger Hill Rd., Danielsville) The gallery celebrates “24 Years of Art” with Giclee prints, originals, photographs and sculptures by over 24 artists including Claire Clements, Ben Rouse, Peter Loose, Kip Ramey and more.

LYNDON HOUSE ARTS CENTER (293 Hoyt St.) “Sitting with the Elders: Stories of Black Athenians” is a series of paintings by Broderick Flanigan. Closing reception Feb. 9. • On view in the Lounge Gallery, “Citrine Visuals” features abstractions by Antoine Stewart. Through Mar. 2.

MADISON COUNTY LIBRARY (1315 GA-98, Danielsville) The “Georgia Artists with DisAbilities” exhibit features works promoted by the organization, which aims to provide opportunities for showing and selling work. Through February. 

NORMAL BOOKS (1238A Prince Ave.) A variety of art on display, including paintings by Mary Eaton, GCH Pet Portraits, metal art by Julia Vereen, ceramics by Shannon Dominy, sculpture by Doug Makemson and handwoven rugs by Bonnie Montgomery.

RICHARD B. RUSSELL BUILDING SPECIAL COLLECTIONS LIBRARIES (300 S. Hull St.) “Under the Big Top: The American Circus and Traveling Tent Shows” explores circuses, vaudeville troupes and other traveling tent shows in the U.S. from the 1820s–1930s. Through July 5. • “Nevertheless, She Resisted: Documenting the Women’s Marches” shares posters, photographs, articles and ephemera from the Women’s March on Washington, D.C. in January 2017. Through July 5.

STATE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF GEORGIA (2450 S. Milledge Ave.) The Mountain Laurel Quilters’ Guild presents “Put a Bird on It,” a collection of 30 wall quilts using tradition, contemporary and art quilting techniques. Each quilt features one or more birds. Through Mar. 3.

TIF SIGFRIDS (119 N. Jackson St.) “Semifreddo” is a solo exhibition of paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Gracie DeVito. Through Mar. 2.

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA OAKWOOD CAMPUS GALLERY (3820 Mundy Mill Rd., Oakwood) “Dark Cotton” features assemblages of found photographs and objects by Lisa Freeman. Closing reception Jan. 31.
