Ntone Edjabe

Ntone Edjabe, editor of the pan-African literary and political journal Chimurenga, will speak on “Diagnosing the Chimurenga Chronic” as part of the UGA Willson Center's Global Georgia Initiative series. (UGA Chapel; 4 p.m., FREE!) A Cameroonian émigré now based in Cape Town, South Africa, Edjabe has published Chimurenga (which roughly translates to "revolutionary struggle") since 2002. The magazine includes fiction, reporting, commentary, criticism and art, and champions human rights and social justice. The Chimurenga Chronic is an “imaginary newspaper” set during the week of May 18–24, 2008, when anti-immigrant riots erupted in Johannesburg. As a sideline, Edjabe is also a DJ, with a style that "fuses Afro and Afro-Diasporic rhythm cultures."
