Long Road Studios, a collective of clay artists formed in 2012, celebrated the grand opening of its new permanent home in Bishop on May 10. The doors were opened and the shelves were fully stocked as Jorie Berman, Laura B. Cooper, Juana Gnecco, Nancy Green, Melanie Sgrignoli, Kendall Steele and Caryn van Wagtendonk welcomed friends and patrons to their new space.  To add to the variety of wares on offer, Sara Lee Parker’s hand-printed linens and Lisa Pickett’s soaps were also on hand and will be carried at the gallery. Friend and guest artist Jim Norton had his jewelry on display for the opening, too.

  • Generations of Glenwood Gardeners 'Hop' and Party

Five gardens in Glenwood were on view Sunday, May 4 for the first-ever “Glenwood Garden Hop,” a tour which showcased the diversity of styles found in this Mid-Century wooded Athens neighborhood. The event was conceived by two organizations: the Glenwood Girls, a group of young women new to the neighborhood and gardening, and the Glenwood Garden Club, a group of seasoned gardeners who first organized in 1955. The loveliest aspect of the event may have been seeing multiple generations of women bonding over their shared love of gardening.

The Art Rocks Athens Foundation opened its inaugural exhibit at the UGA Special Collections Library last night and, while the party never got quite out of bounds, it was an amazing evening. The foundation was created to celebrate the art and artists that were an integral part of the Athens music scene in its early days. “ARTifacts Rock Athens: Relics from the Athens Music Scene, 1975-1985” does just that with ample displays celebrating the art and music of bands like Pylon, Oh Okay, the B-52’s, Love Tractor and more.
