The Classic Center sent Flagpole an announcement this morning that beloved fake newspaper The Onion was bringing some kind of show to Athens Oct. 6.

America's finest news source, The Onion, is coming to your town! The Onion has been misinforming news consumers with its outrageous headlines for a quarter century. The Onion's unique brand of satire has delighted readers at the same time it's duped world leaders, lawmakers, and major newspapers around the world. As the world's definitive authority on all human endeavors, The Onion's live show is the only theatrical experience guaranteed to leave audiences smarter, better-looking, and three inches taller than they were when they sat down. But best of all, it will be a laugh riot from start to finish!

Tickets were set to go on sale Friday. But hours later:

Due to circumstances outside of our control, we are sorry to inform you that The Onion! LIVE show that we announced earlier today has been canceled. The show's producers were unfortunately forced to delay launching the entire tour. We are optimistic that we will be able to reschedule this event in the future, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Oh, those rogues at The Onion. Was the show ever real? Was it actually canceled? Is it actually canceled? We may never know.
