Always Baked Is Open; Other Upcoming Events

Food roundup below:

  • As of this morning, Always Baked, the stoner-centric cookie company based in late-night delivery, is open in its new brick-and-mortar location at 723 Baxter St., just before the intersection with Milledge. It appears to have French toast sticks and coffee, as well as breakfast sandwiches, Disco biscuits, Widespread Pancakes (with sausage), funnel cakes and cookies. Always Baked is open Monday–Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.–10 p.m.; Thursday–Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–3 a.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

  • Mardi Gras is Tuesday, Mar. 4, and NONA is hosting events for it starting tonight that go beyond just drinking and beads. There's a special menu on offer with muffalettas and crawfish pie, and Saturday brings the crowning of a carnival king and queen at 2 p.m., followed by a walking parade in downtown Athens led by the Hobohemians.

  • Fundraising for Project Safe as part of Dancing with the Athens Stars is well underway, and Dave Shearon's team has been particularly visible. This Sunday (Mar. 2), 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., Peter Dale is hosting a brunch demonstration with champagne by Shiraz at a private home in Boulevard. Tickets are $50 a pop and can be purchased by calling Shearon at 706-372-8530 with your credit card handy.

  • And you may as well go ahead and mark your calendars for Apr. 5 as farmers market day all over the place, with both Oconee and Athens Farmers Markets having it down as opening day. Almost time to get yo' arugula on.
