Athens Farmers Market Starts Up Again Saturday, More Markets Opening Soon

Spring has sprung like a mofo all over the place, which means it's time for farmers markets to get going. Athens Farmers Market (which also has a snazzy new website) will kick off its ninth season Saturday, Apr. 2 at 8 a.m. at Bishop Park, where it will be under the covered pavilion, removing one more of your excuses for not going. The Fresh Food Bus, which provides free transportation to the market, is returning, but the schedule is TBA.

New food vendors include Capra Gia Goat Cheese, Golda Kombucha, Holy Crepe (Farm Cart will still be on hand), Johnston Family Farm, Love Aquaponics Farm and the Boy and the Dog Beef.

Wednesday afternoon/evening markets at Creature Comforts get started Apr. 6 from 4–7 p.m., and run through Nov. 16.

Also this Saturday, from 1–6 p.m., Grove Creek Farm in Crawford will hold its 19th annual Old-Timey Seed Swap. Come exchange heirloom seeds, picnic and participate in a potluck at 2 p.m.

The Oconee Farmers Market starts the same day and runs from 8 a.m.–1 p.m. in front of the Oconee County Courthouse in downtown Watkinsville.

The West Broad Farmers Market will get started in a few weeks, on Apr. 30, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

And Clarke Middle School is selling produce grown by students and by UGAGarden from 4–6 p.m. on Mondays in front of the school. You can also buy the UGArden stuff on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at the Athens Community Council on Aging and, soon, at Coile Middle School.
