As we creep ever closer to the world of Wall-E, Athens is getting its very own cookie dough café. Dawg Dough, owned by Mike and Jennifer Dollander, will open this fall at 480 N. Thomas St., across from 1000 Faces.

Jennifer Dollander visited New York with her daughter Stephanie in July, where they encountered the idea of an eatery that made it acceptable to eat raw cookie dough in public. Entrepreneurially minded folks, she and her husband thought it would be popular in Athens, especially with a Bulldog theme.

Jennifer developed the recipes, which are safe to eat raw, testing them with her five children.

“I knew I had to get the consistency right," she said. "I know people will come to experience Dawg Dough, but I want them to keep coming back because it is so darn good.”

The dough comes by the scoop ($3.50 for a single), in a sundae (with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry), blended with ice cream into a milkshake, squished between two pretzels and dipped in chocolate or tucked into a cannoli.

It's available in flavors include chocolate chip, mint chocolate, red velvet, peanut butter cup, oatmeal M&M (gluten-free), birthday cake, s'mores and more. You'll also be able to get Jittery Joe's coffee.

And, of course, if you prefer your dough baked, you can take it home and do just that. You can find hours and the full menu on the website.
