I've been meaning to mention for quite some time that 1000 Faces Coffee, the small-scale roaster in Athens, received a Good Food Award last month in the coffee category (you can see all the winners in that category by clicking here). The awards go to American farmers and food producers who focus on responsible production and make/grow tasty stuff, both of which are very true of 1000 Faces. You can buy their beans not only at a long list of places in Athens, but also in Atlanta, Augusta, North Carolina and South Carolina.
In related news, the long list for the James Beard Award semifinalists was just announced, and although Hugh Acheson, last year's winner for Best Chef Southeast, is no longer eligible for his category, Five & Ten gets a nod for Steven Grubbs in "outstanding wine program." Also making the cut once again in the "outstanding restaurateur" category are Mike Klank and Eddie Hernandez of Taqueria del Sol, by far the little guys on a list that includes Maguy LeCoze.
