The Pig's future location.

Is this a sad story, because it means a longtime Athens business is moving out of its original location? Or is it a happy one, because it means a locally owned place is coming downtown?

You can read it either way, but the point is that Blind Pig Tavern is taking over the downstairs of the former Dirty Birds (or Wild Wing) on West East Washington Street. The upstairs is being put to other use.

The restaurant's Baldwin Street location, which has been in operation for 17 years, will close, though it isn't closed yet, and the goal is to have the new place open by the Georgia-Florida game (or Halloween weekend, if you don't have that date committed to memory).

In other news:

If you haven't been inside J's Bottle Shop since its dramatic expansion/renovation, it's having a grand reopening party this Saturday from 1–4 p.m. Yes, that's during the football game, but you could run over at halftime.

There will be music from the Athens A-Train Band, as well as Classic City Rollergirls on hand, pets to adopt, art by Broderick Flanigan and food by Marti's at Midday, Phickles Pickles, Taziki's, Transmet West and Little Cuckoo Chocolates.
