The Athens branch of Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, a Charlotte-based chain that will be opening in the West Washington Street deck downtown, is slated to start doing business Monday, Mar. 17 (probably). It also has its own Facebook page, distinct from the corporate one.
The Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation is organizing a beer dinner/fundraiser at Terrapin (with the help of Mama's Boy) on Tuesday, Mar. 18, at 6 p.m. Six courses plus beer pairings and a brewery tour will run you $60; upping it to $75 adds a 6-month ACHF membership. Only 50 spots are available, so the deadline for buying tickets is Friday. If you want to see the menu, it's posted here. Tickets can be purchased online here.
Athens Land Trust has a couple of events coming up, too: an oyster roast on Apr. 6 at 4 p.m. in High Shoals (tickets are $35 each) and its Double Dollars Dinner on Apr. 27 at 6 p.m. at The National, with Chef Peter Dale making the eats ($120 per person, $70 of which is tax-deductible and goes toward doubling state and federal nutrition benefits). Inquire with Nathan Shannon at [email protected] for more details or to RSVP.
Broad View Farms, which used to be in Madison, has moved to Winterville and is offering a CSA (community-supported agriculture) program beginning Apr. 15. The farm is not certified organic, but it is Certified Naturally Grown, which is comparable. If you're interested in a weekly box of veggies, inquire on Facebook or by contacting co-owner Jess Maffett at [email protected] or 843-812-1110. Should you be commitment-phobic about the CSA box, you can sample the farm's wares at both the Oconee and Athens farmers markets this year.
