Dang it, my hot dog source is gone
I especially hate to hear of a restaurant closing shortly after I've covered it for some reason or another, but such is the case with The Dogg Pound, which served tasty hot dogs in a cute environment at the intersection of Broad and Hancock, in the space once known as the Arctic Girl. I wish you well, hot dog folks.
Also closed is The Beer Growler, which writes on Facebook that its Athens store is no more: "We will miss Athens dearly. Thanks for all the support over the past two years. We unfortunately could not make things work in Athens. We do however have six other stores opening in the next 90 days. Suwanee, Johns Creek, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, Alpharetta and one yet to be disclosed location. The Avondale Estates Store remains open and we hope to see all of you at one of these stores soon. Cheers!!!"
In happier news, Heirloom Cafe is offering 15 percent off your meal to anyone who "walks, cycles, skateboards, etc." (i.e., doesn't use a car to get there) and says "Please let your server know, as it is hard to keep up with how everyone arrives." Coming up May 30 from 6 to 7 p.m., the restaurant is having a tasting of artisanal cheese from Greendale Farm paired with craft beers. The charge is $15 and if you stay for dinner, you get 10 percent off your check (presumably not in addition to the gas-free discount). Call 706 354-7901 to make a reservation.
