COLORBEARER OF ATHENS, GEORGIA LOCALLY OWNED SINCE 1987

Closed + Birthday

And Enomatic for the people

From Scratch Cafe in Winterville appears to have closed, as has Runt's BBQ, next to Jimbo's on Baxter Street and home to a truly marvelous strawberry lemonade. Also, a restaurant called Chicken Burgers N Things has replaced what was Chick-fil-A, on the second floor of the Georgia Square Mall.

Shiraz, in the Leathers Building on Pulaski, has added an Enomatic machine, which you may have seen in action at The National. Sort like a tap for wine, it enables easy serving by the glass, meaning you can sample some of the store's offerings before you buy.

Finally, mark your calendar for Saturday, Nov. 10, from noon to 4 p.m., when Daily Groceries Co-op will be celebrating its 20th birthday. Founded on Oct. 17, 1992, the store provides one of the most pleasant shopping experiences in Athens, with treasures hiding all over the place. It will be providing some food but also encouraging potluck, and bands The Ecotones, Like Totally and Coconut Moon (all of which have members who work at the store) will perform. The party takes place on Pope Street, so cross your fingers for nice weather.
