Also: pie time
So, remember, like, two weeks ago, when I said Chango's had closed and was hoping someone else would be in that lovely space on Clayton Street soon? It looks like it has indeed been snapped up. The NNI emails are always a great source of news, and the one for district 9 includes the following for 320 E. Clayton: "A permit application has been submitted in order to complete an interior renovation of downtown restaurant space for Famous 34 Pub and Grill. Proposed work includes modifications to plumbing, electrical and interior walls." If you're not anti-football, you probably make a quick connection with that number, and, indeed, the restaurant appears to be connected to one Mr. Herschel Walker. Number 34 runs a company called Renaissance Man International that markets mostly appetizers and chicken to restaurants. Now he appears to be moving into the restaurant business himself. The new place has a Facebook page but it's pretty empty at the moment.
Also, it's time to start planning Turkey Day menus, and if you're not a gifted baker (few of us are), you might want to think about ordering a pie (or two, or more) from The National, which kindly provides this service every year. A 10-inch pie will cost you $20 plus tax, and you can choose from Pumpkin Spice, Pecan Chocolate, Deep Dish Apple with Brown Sugar Streusel and Bourbon Pecan. Call 706-549-3450 to order by Sunday, Nov. 18, for pick-up Wednesday, Nov. 21.
