Opening in the Cotton Exchange Building
After hearing rumors that a new restaurant would be opening in the Cotton Exchange Building on the Hull/Clayton corner, in the space vacated by Casa Mia, I confirmed earlier today with Kathryn Lookofsky of the Athens Downtown Development Authority that it's a place called Five. It's a chain, but not a large one, with locations in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Much of its website is still lorem ipsum-y, but the concept is simplicity. Every category on the menu (entrees, red wines, bar snacks, signature cocktails, etc.) has five options within it. You can see the menu for the Athens location here, and its five entrees are a cheeseburger, chicken, pork tenderloin, fried shrimp and a ribeye, so... good luck, vegetarians. The bar appears to be an important component, as it should be for anyone trying to make a go of it in such a large space, and the restaurant focuses on dinner and brunch. I haven't heard an opening date yet, but I'd imagine it could be fairly soon.
