Food Events Around Town: Avid, Athens Farmers Market and More

Avid Bookshop continues to program a robust schedule of food-related events, with several in the near future. Saturday at Athens Farmers Market (AFM), Kevin West, author of "Saving the Season: A Cook's Guide to Home Canning, Pickling, and Preserving," will be on hand to do a demo. West's blog should give you a nice overview of his mad skillz with preserving fresh produce.

This July's Where's Waldo, also run by Avid, wraps up on Wednesday, with a party/raffle at the bookstore at 6:30 p.m. The idea is to find the small cardboard cut-out of the bespectacled striped-shirt-wearing dude in 25 different local businesses, which include among them many restaurants. Here's a hint: look up and look down. He's usually not at eye level.

Hugh Acheson will be doing the chef demo at AFM next Saturday (Aug. 3). (Update: Make that next next Saturday, Aug. 10, as it's been rescheduled).

On Aug. 1, split between the Georgia Museum of Art and the Georgia Theatre is the Southern C Summit, a one-day symposium on blogging and social media that focuses in part on local cuisine. Epting Events promises to do exciting things with Goo Goo Clusters, and Whitney Otawka, The Branded Butcher and Southern Living food editor Hunter Lewis will be on hand for the evening portion of the event.
