Goodie Two Shoes, the offshoot of Mama's Boy that opened in the 909 Broad building in December 2014, will stop serving lunch after next Friday, Jan. 29. It will remain in business as a space for event rental and in which Mama's Boy can do catering prep.
Co-owner Cooper Currin Hudson says that it wasn't so much that the restaurant aspect of Goodie Two Shoes lacked foot traffic, although it was up and down. Instead, she says, the rental aspect has been unexpectedly popular.
"We just decided that turning down catering and private parties in the space to accommodate an erratic lunch business wasn't working," Hudson says. "We originally opened the restaurant to be able to have the catering kitchen, I just didn't imagine that there would be so many people wanting to rent the space."
Hudson says the space holds about 60 people for a cocktail reception and 30–40 seated. She adds, "Typically, I don't charge a space rental. I make custom menus and charge for food and service. A lot of them are large parties that can't fit at Mama's Boy or bridal luncheons, brunches, rehearsal dinners, corporate lunches that also need a private meeting space."
