The Hungry Howie

Pizza chain Hungry Howie's opens for business today on Baxter Street, right by the UGA dorms, with a ribbon-cutting by the Chamber of Commerce and large one-topping pies on sale for $7.99. Its owners, Tisha and Chad Cepuran, will also be making a donation to local 501(c)(3) Children First, Inc. Hungry Howie's will be open from 10 a.m.–2 a.m. Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–3 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m.–1 a.m. Sunday.

In case we forgot to mention it, Craft Public House, on the Eastside, is officially open.

Ten Pins Tavern, the local bowling alley in Homewood Hills shopping center, is closed. It was already resurrected once, so maybe it will be again. Showtime Bowl, on Macon Highway, is also closed for the time being, due to a roof collapse caused by the storm last week. God hates bowling?

Starting next Monday, Aug. 15, George's Lowcountry Table, on Milledge near the Loop, is adding a catfish night; $14 gets you fish and hushpuppies.

Your Pie is putting together Your Fest, a music/food festival to benefit Action Ministries' Smart Lunch, Smart Kid Program. It'll take place at Terrapin on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 1–10:30 p.m. The pizza company is lending its mobile oven to chefs, who will make fancy pizzas you can buy. Participants include Peter Dale (The National), Charlie Mustard (not a chef per se, but the man behind Jittery Joe’s roastery), Gena Knox (Fire and Flavor), Chris Benson (South Kitchen + Bar), Nick Reilly (Trappeze Pub), the dudes from The Pine, Christopher Belk (Saucehouse BBQ), David Asman (Athens Bagel Company) and Josh and Amy Collins (Champy’s Famous Fried Chicken). Tickets range from $15–$75 and can be purchased via EventBrite.
