It took a little while, but Koyla Sizzling Grill & Hookah Lounge is open today, replacing the former Desi Bazaar at 2024 S. Milledge Ave., near the Loop.
The menu highlights kabobs and other grilled items (lamb, chicken, beef, shrimp, paneer) and derives from Pakistani and North Indian cuisine. You can get tandoori this and that, a large selection of curries and korma dishes (goat, chicken, beef, paneer, fish, eggs and veggies from cauliflower to okra), an array of biryani like those Desi used to serve some days of the week (rice-based dishes, some vegetarian, some pretty meaty), naan, paratha, lots of chaat (i.e., snacks: pakora, samosas, puri, fried potatoes, Chicken 65, etc.), chicken wings in abundance and a fair number of desserts (custards, gulab jamun, rice pudding, kulfi ice cream and baklava). To drink, there are lassis, fruit juices, chai and coffee as well as sodas.
The restaurant also houses a grocery store, which opens at 9 a.m. daily, and a hookah lounge that operates in the evening hours until early in the a.m. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30–9 p.m., both seven days a week.
Koyla has a Facebook page as well as a website, but it's fairly empty right now.
