Little Italy

Little Italy, in downtown Athens, seems like an ageless wonder, but tomorrow brings its 20th anniversary, with a big ol' celebration from 11 a.m. all the way until 3 a.m. That party includes: prices from 20 years ago ($1 slices, $5 subs, $1 drinks, including beer), a Pepsi sampling (calling attention to the restaurant's only real flaw) and giveaways (T-shirts, Braves tickets, gift certificates, etc.).

George's Lowcountry Table is holding a wine dinner focusing on the wines of Kysela Pere et Fils, with special guest Robert Jones, master sommelier, on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Five wines, five courses, $60. Call 706-548-3359 for reservations.

Interior designer/store Metal + Petal is hosting a pop-up end-of-summer dinner by Peter Dale of The National on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Food includes: hors d'oeuvres of chilled carrot-ginger soup and a salad of endive, smoked trout, grapefruit and avocado; a family-style dinner with veggie and non-veggie options; and avocado key lime pie for dessert, plus drinks, all for $125. Tickets can be purchased online.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, Milledge Avenue Baptist Church will host the Five Points Food Truck Party from 4–8 p.m. Trucks on hand include: Holy Crepe, Nedza's Waffles, Manila Express, Taqueria 1785, Da Munchiezz, Mac the Cheese, Taza, Kona Ice, Little Jimmy's Italian Ices, King of Pops, Biggums, Chick-Fil-A and Your Pie, plus the Rolling Runway, which has clothes, not food. Ten percent of purchases will go to Athens Area Habitat for Humanity.

The second annual East Side Eats takes place at the YWCO on Sunday, Aug. 20 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Come eat bites of food and samples of drink from Eastside places including Barberitos, Beef ‘O’ Bradys, Cali N Tito’s, Chick-Fil-A, Craft Public House, DePalmas Eastside, Edible Arrangements, Fatz, Inoko Express, Keba, Jimmy John's, Little City Diner, Locos Grill & Pub, Mama’s Boy, Mannaweenta, Siri Thai, Sweetie Pie by Savie, Trumps Catering, Wok Star and Your Pie. Tickets are $15 in advance (or four for $50) and $20 at the door (free for kids younger than 5). You can get them at the YWCO, which collects the funds for youth programming.
