If you've ever tried to park at Mama's Boy during a busy time of day (i.e., basically all of them) and ended up giving up, with a flood of profanity, you'll be pleased to hear about the restaurant's upcoming second location.

Opened on Oak Street in 2006, the Southern restaurant has long attracted lines for its breakfast and brunch. It added a catering facility and lunch space, Goodie Two Shoes, in the 909 Broad building downtown a few years ago, but the foot traffic just wasn't there for the latter part of the business. Catering will move to the new spot, which measures about 4,000 square feet (more than double the size of the original space). You'll also be able to get the full Mama's Boy menu there, plus some new items, says owner Cooper Hudson.

The new location is described as being close to Five Points, and technically that's correct, in that everything in Athens is fairly close to everything else. More specifically, it's in the new Falls of Oconee Shopping Center, on Macon Highway near its intersection with White Oak Road, sort of near Redneck Beach. (The same shopping center houses the new location of The Olive Basket, which will hold its grand opening this weekend.)

Hudson says Mama's Boy 2.0 will continue to offer a discount to pedestrians and that, fingers crossed, they're shooting for an opening date of July 21, the same day the first restaurant opened, 11 years ago.
