The two-story space that housed East West Bistro for many years, on Broad Street downtown, finally seems to be getting a tenant: a diner chain out of Jacksonville, FL.
Metro Diner opened its original location in Jacksonville in 1992, but seems to have been expanding at a brisk rate, with 21 locations either already in business or soon to open, including two in Pennsylvania and two in Indiana. It proudly touts having been featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," and its motto is "where the locals eat" (cue Athenian eyebrow-raise).
The menu is heavy on standards, with lots of sandwiches, burgers, egg dishes (a whole section of Benedict variations) and some plates like meatloaf, pot roast and pot pie. It does have some vegetarian options that are not just salads and french fries, plus a kids menu, and breakfast is served all day. Hiring is ongoing, and the opening date hasn't been set yet, but the space will seat an estimated 198 people.
