Reggie DiSante to Open Eastside Restaurant this Fall, More Food News

Reggie DiSante, whom you may remember from his days at Harry Bissett's and more recently the man behind George's Lowcountry Table near the bypass on South Milledge, is planning a new venture to open in early August. The new place, Charlie Noble's, will be next to the space that houses Mirko Pasta in the Ansonborough mixed-use development on Gaines School Road.

The menu should be more straightforwardly Southern (but still on the upscale end of things) than the Lowcountry cuisine his current restaurant serves, and although it's still a work in progress, DiSante says he will have specialty mac and cheese. The restaurant, like George's, gets its name from the late George Davis, DiSante's mentor, who used to own a place by the same name on Prince Avenue years ago.

In other news:

I know I just said Shotgun Dinners, the underground supper club, was dead, but it has one more event planned, its annual pig roast, on Apr. 26 at 12:30 p.m. The party is free and open to anyone who wants to attend, although RSVPing on Facebook is recommended. Here are some details:

For those of you who have never attended this event, or for those of you that may have had too much beer last year, we strongly urge you to bring a side dish, wine/beer, or, at minimum, a good attitude and a friend. We will provide the hog, sauce, buns, and Damien will be premiering a very limited Oyster Stout in honor of Patrick's upcoming restaurant Sea Bear and Damien's upcoming restaurant/brewery Normaltown Artisanal Pizza & Beer. There will only be one small keg of this beer so you may want to arrive on time and bring a little extra to drink for when the keg runs out.

And it seems Athens Wok, in the righthand half of the former Bluebird at the corner of Clayton and Thomas downtown, is finally open, though with no official Internet presence I can ascertain.
