Spring Break: Restaurant Closings, Temporary Hours, Pi Day

Thanks to spring breakers, it's a little harder to go out to eat this week.

Spring break always means a super-quiet Athens, which means it's a good opportunity for restaurants to do some spring cleaning, close for a day or two or just cut back hours for the week. Here's what's going on that we know of:

  • Five and Ten was closed Sunday and is closed today.
  • Amici is closed today and tomorrow and reopening Wednesday.
  • White Tiger is closed until lunchtime Thursday.
  • Independent Baking Co. is opening a little later than usual (7:30 a.m.).
  • Most campus eateries (including Ike & Jane at the Georgia Museum of Art and all the dining halls except the East Campus one) are closed for the week.

Also, as has been the case for the past few years, Mar. 14 (3.14) is Pi(e) Day at Your Pie, meaning a basic pie with dough that contains gluten, sauce, cheese and veggies (no premium toppings) will run you only $3.14 (dine-in only).

Next week brings a charcuterie pop-up event at the Old Pal on Monday, Mar. 17, at 6 p.m., with Chef Jason Zygmont of Five & Ten and some nibbles from the same restaurant's pastry chef, Mike Sutton. It seems like a better option than green domestic brews. Pricing isn't set yet, but watch the Facebook event for more details.
