Open since 2009, Square One Fish Co. will do its last day of business in its current location on Sunday. Owners Erica and Joe Cascio have sold the building to a hotel that will open next to the Classic Center, something meeting planners have desired for a long time.
Also closed are the Hawthorne Avenue location of Dickey's Barbecue Pit (the Oconee location remains open) and Always Baked on Baxter Street.
180°F Cafe is open at 650 W. Broad St., in the former Quickly, doing a similar kind of thing: bubble tea, fried Taiwanese snacks, Thai tea, bento boxes, Jittery Joe's coffee. You can get a look at the hand-written menu here.
The original Blind Pig on Baldwin Street has a goodbye party scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m., with live music and an auction for some of the memorabilia therein. The new downtown location opens Oct. 31 for the UGA-Florida football game.
Also scheduled for Saturday, at 6 p.m., is the eighth annual Harvest Moon Dinner, which benefits Athens Land Trust. Mimi Maumus of home.made will be cheffing this year, with her pickled deviled eggs, a family-style dinner focusing on vegetables (plus pepper jelly bbq chicken) and pecan sandies with heirloom pumpkin pudding, whipped cream and candied sage for dessert. Tickets are $150 and can be purchased online here.
