Tidbits Around Town: Mama Sid's, Herschel's Famous 34, School Lunches

Mama Sid's, the venerable pizza place on the Eastside that at one time had multiple locations, just celebrated 30 years in business. Considering the average lifespan of a restaurant is comparable to the average length of an NFL career (five years for restaurants, a hair under seven for football players), that number is impressive.

Herschel's Famous 34 Pub and Grill is officially open in the former Doc Chey's/Chango's on East Clayton Street downtown, serving 34 flavors of wings (including some not often seen, such as Doritos, raspberry horseradish and hot plum), ribs, beer, etc. The man himself was in town and posing for pictures at the grand opening last Friday, many of which can be seen on the Facebook page.

Athens Farm to School and the Clarke County School District are hosting "I Heart School Lunch" coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. (yes, it's dinner; they know) at Clarke Middle. For a mere $3, you can check out what your kids are eating (local produce, for one thing) and learn about Farm to School. RSVP online until Feb. 15.
