Troubadour Is Open, Free Fro-Yo at Menchie's Thursday and More

Troubadour Pub & Grill

If you have not driven the particular stretch of Baxter lately where Locos used to have its sign, you may not have realized that Troubadour Pub & Grill is now open in that location and has been for a week or so. The old UGA scoreboard remains up, but the interior has been somewhat made over, with a more streamlined look (still including plenty of sports memorabilia).

You can get a look at the inside here, in its Facebook photo album, and the menu is available on the official website. The front of it reads, "Nachos - Wings - Salads - Chicken - Burgers," which is a fair representation, but you can also get a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, grilled salmon, "Doug's Almost Famous Half Fried Chicken," loaded potato skins, wings, kids' meals, carrot cake, milkshakes, smoothies and veggie sides such as green beans with "smokey pepper" and collard greens. The place has a full bar and does live music.

Tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 6) is apparently National Frozen Yogurt Day, because what says fro-yo more than early February? At any rate, both Menchie's locations in town are offering six free ounces of the stuff to everyone who brings in the coupon downloadable here from the official Facebook event.

Herschel's Famous 34 Pub & Grill, in downtown Athens, has undergone a name change (to Herschel’s 34 Chicken & Ribs Kitchen, which is no less of a mouthful), a menu change (fewer items, more Southern and rib-sticking in emphasis) and a reduction in hours (no lunch Monday through Thursday).

Nick Thomas, who is enrolled in Athens Tech's culinary arts program, won the culinary scholarship of $1,000 offered by the Classic Center Cultural Foundation. A full press release is here.

The last restaurant space in the Bottleworks has been taken by Taziki's Mediterannean Cafe, a franchise based out of Birmingham. Menus vary by location, but the one from Sandy Springs is here, to give you an idea of what the eatery will offer. It seems a step up from Zoe's in terms of fanciness, although it certainly does take-out as well as sit-down eating. Don't even bring up the spelling of the name (a variation of tzatziki?) with Flagpole's Blake Aued unless you want an earful.
