They've been named checked by Patrick Stickles on Titus Andronicus' latest album, Local Business. They have more guitarists than Iron Maiden, if you can believe that. They've lapped the U.S. a few times this year and have what is arguably the most obscene name of any active band right now (one booking agent refused to work with them unless they changed it). Everything about the band and its sound screams reckless abandon.

They're Diarrhea Planet. And if you're keeping up with the state of punk rock these days, surely you've heard of them by now. If you haven't, you should do that right now. The band's latest LP, I'm Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, has sold out on Infinity Cat Records and has already attained something of a classic status as a result of rave reviews across the board.

Diarrhea Planet is an all-out guitar attack whose tunes are typically less than two minutes (à la The Germs). The band somehow manages to pay homage to old-school punk (and a little bit of metal—listen for the Van Halen-esque two-hand tapping) and include catchy choruses in the process. Just check out "Mutt Feast" from their Yama-Uba EP and tell us you aren't singing along by the end of it:

Don't just take our word for it, though. Thomas Johnson of Futurebirds (who closes out the show at the Georgia Theatre tonight) is jazzed to play shows with the Nashville punks whenever possible. "They're such a fun band to play with," says Johnson. "They're so young and not yet jaded by touring. They're always pullng pranks on each other on tour."

I've typed "Diarrhea Planet" so many times that I'm sure I've made my family proud. Now, go make yourself proud by checking these punk pranksters out at the Georgia Theatre.
