Flagpole Premieres: Wieuca, 'Hale Bop' Video

Athens indie-rock band Wieuca has never been content to settle into just one groove, its sizable discography featuring instinctive forays into alt-country, psych and electropop, to name a few.

This year, the group is set to release a full-length follow-up to 2018's Local Celebrity EP. But before dropping any tunes from that project, it's back with yet another stand-alone single, "Hale Bop," and an accompanying video, both of which we're excited to premiere today.

As the title suggests, the song, whose structure and melody recall the best of 1990s power-pop/alt-rock, is an ode to one of that decade's most infamous curiosities.

"The track and video are told from the point of view of the Heaven's Gate cult in a world where they were right and everyone else was wrong, and they escaped Earth while the rest of us were swept into oblivion," says Wieuca guitarist Will Ingram.
