And you thought we'd heard the last of R.E.M.! A benefit preview listening party has been held in Athens, GA for each new R.E.M. album since the 1992 release of Automatic for the People, and the tradition continues one last time as the band celebrates its final release, the career retrospective titled Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, with two days of music, film and fun! Here's the schedule of events:
Sunday, Nov. 13 @ Georgia Theatre
A night of R.E.M. covers performed my a wide range of local talent, including: David Barbe and the Quick Hooks, The Corduroy Road, Futurebirds, Grogus, Jack Logan and Coventry Climax, John Keane and Nathan Sheppard, Kevn Kinney, Lera Lynn, Nanny Island, Romper Stompers (feat. Todd Nance of Widespread Panic, William Tonks & Jon Mills of Barbara Cue, and Daniel Hutchens of Bloodkin), 706 and Thayer Sarrano. Monday, Nov. 14 @ 40 Watt Club
The final CD pre-release party with silent and live auctions, exclusive video footage, raffle and limited edition merchandise for sale. Auction items include a donated Rickenbacker guitar signed by all four members of R.E.M., framed signed guitar picks, an open edition signed archival pigment ink print of R.E.M. in Walter’s Bar-B-Que from 1984 donated by photographer Laura Levine, R.E.M. set pieces from past tours, archived t-shirts, and more. Monday, Nov. 14 @ Ciné
From 5–7 p.m. on Monday, enjoy a sampling of food from more than 15 of Athens’ finest eateries, including Weaver D's, The Grit, Five & Ten, Dondero’s, The National, Ted’s Most Best, Marti’s at Midday, Mama’s Boy, Heirloom Cafe, Big City Bread, Four Coursemen, La Dolce Vidta, The last Resort, Taco Stand, Taqueria Del Sol, Farm 255, Jittery Joe's, DePalma's and others are still confirming. During the event, special screenings of R.E.M. live concert footage on an archived 3 5mm print and a special 90-minute R.E.M. video retrospective will be shown in each theatre. Limited number of tickets available; number of tickets limited to four per order.
