That's Michael Stipe in the spotlight, talking about Jay-Z using his lyrics.
The R.E.M. frontman talked about Hova quoting from "Losing My Religion" in a recent interview with the British music magazine NME. "Heaven," off Magna Carta Holy Grail, repeats the lines, "That's me in the corner/ That's me in the spotlight/ Losing my religion."
"I've known Jay for a long time, he's super cool, super grounded, super smart and super talented," Stipe said. "I've always had the deepest respect for him, and his music and choices. We're thrilled (for our lyrics) to be included, it's a really great honour."
Stipe also said he plans to return the favor by covering "Big Pimpin'" on his upcoming solo joint.
Just kidding. Although that might be kind of tight. He did duet with KRS-One on Out of Time, after all.
(Cue Gabe Vodicka rant about overemphasizing R.E.M. in 3... 2... 1...)
