Here's a cool, videotape-hissy video that's making the web rounds (SPIN calls it "spine-tingling") of a very young R.E.M., in 1981, performing a set at defunct Atlanta club 688.
The video, which was digitized by folks over at Wuxtry and "premiered" by blog Slicing Up Eyeballs, is a stunning document (heh) of the band in its infancy. Led by a manic, flailing Michael Stipe, the group burns through 13 songs, including "Gardening at Night," "Radio Free Europe" and "Permanent Vacation."
