Welcome to Athens Power Rankings. In the spirit of sports rating systems, through painstaking analysis, we rank the top movers and shakers in the Classic City each week. Who's hot? Who's not? Find out below.
1. Andrew Roberts
This UGA student collected more than 50 anecdotes of racial discrimination at downtown Athens bars, helping the push for a local anti-discrimination ordinance that the Athens-Clarke County Commission is expected to vote on in January.
2. David Clark
The director of the ACC Transportation and Public Works Department has a plan for a road diet on Dougherty Street. Read more in this week’s City Dope.
3. Carden Wyckoff
Also in the next issue, a UGA graduate with muscular dystrophy has filed an Americans with Disabilities Act complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice seeking to force UGA to move the Arch back a few feet so the handicapped can participate in the tradition of walking under it after graduation.
4. Kristine Leschper
Gordon Lamb is psyched about Mothers’ debut album coming out in February, and Leschper’s project also figures prominently in our year-in-review coverage, coming (you guessed it) Wednesday.
5. Kirby Smart
Georgia’s newly hired coach continues to fill out his staff. How’s he doing? Our football columnist Cy Brown will let you know.
