Sorry, Berners: Looks like it’s Hillary or bust.
Even though a recent court ruling drastically lowered the number of signatures required to get on the ballot in Georgia, Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein’s campaign failed to gather enough by the deadline, Secretary of State Brian Kemp said Tuesday.
Stein said during a recent appearance at UGA that she planned to gather 15,000 signatures, twice the number she needed. But her campaign only gathered 10,000, and the secretary of state’s office was only able to verify 5,925 of them, the AJC reports.
The Georgia Green Party plans to appeal, co-chairman Hugh Esco said.
Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson is on Georgia’s ballot automatically because the party has received enough votes in the past.
