Losing My Permission

R.E.M. says "puff adder" Fox News can't use its song during its Democratic National Convention coverage.

R.E.M. is demanding that Fox News to stop using one of its hits on air. "We have little to no respect for their puff adder brand of journalism," singer Michael Stipe said Thursday on the band's website. "Our music does not belong there."

The network hasn't responded, band manager Bertis Downs says.

Fox played "Losing My Religion" during its coverage of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, where the party initially approved a platform that, as Republicans repeatedly pointed out, didn't include the word "God." Democrats later added it back. It's possible, of course, that Fox producers were referring to someone in the spotlight, who said too much or made a slip that brought him to his knees.
