Meet Your Legislators

UPDATED: Sen. Johnny Isakson will be the special guest star at an Athens chamber legislative luncheon tomorrow.

Got a bone to pick with state lawmakers? You'll have a couple of chances to give them a piece of your mind this week, before the legislature gavels in Monday for its 2013 session.

Athens' delegation to the Gold Dome—Rep. Chuck Williams (R-Watkinsville), Reps.-elect Regina Quick (R-Athens) and Spencer Frye (D-Athens) and Sens. Bill Cowsert (R-Athens) and Frank Ginn (R-Danielsville) are scheduled to appear at a Federation of Neighborhoods meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Prince Avenue firehall, home to the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation. It's free and open to the public.

The same bunch will also be speaking at an Athens Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, but tickets are no longer on sale. Just today, U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) agreed to speak as well, so if you have questions about the recent tax deal, the coming debt ceiling fight, gun control or anything of the myriad other unresolved issues in Washington, blast away.

In other news, the Athens Banner-Herald's Lee Shearer says the Board of Regents is voting today to add $16 million to the University of Georgia's budget for construction of a veterinary hospital on College Station Road and approve residency programs at Athens Regional and St. Mary's for graduates of the new Athens medical campus.

Over in Atlanta, Creative Loafing's Rodney Carmichael was shocked to find the semi-famous home for aging strippers, the Clermont Lounge, packed out after it was featured on Real Housewives of Atlanta.
