The Parade of Lights, Athens' annual holiday (OK, OK, Christmas, if you're a Fox News watcher) celebration, winds through downtown tonight at 7 p.m.
The parade, featuring more than 70 floats and marching bands, starts at the corner of Dougherty and Pulaski streets, winds through downtown and ends at City Hall for the lighting of our official Christmas tree. The theme is "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
If you're just there to watch, set up anywhere along the route. If you're going to be in the parade, show up on Dougherty Street no later than 5:45 p.m. If you're not going at all, you probably want to avoid the area altogether, because it'll be packed and a bunch of streets will be closed.
Parking will be free in the courthouse deck after 5 p.m., but the Washington Street and College Avenue decks will close at 6 p.m. and won't reopen until the parade is done, according to Athens-Clarke Leisure Services spokeswoman Cathy Padgett. The Classic Center deck, accessible from East Broad Street, is also an option.
Oh, and be sure to keep an eye out for the Flagpole/AthFest/40 Watt Athens Music Scene float—we're No. 13!—featuring the kids' band Like Totally! The whole lineup, videos of past parades and other info is here.
