The Clarke County Board of Education is now accepting applications for the vacant District 4 position on the board.
The remaining eight members of the school board will select someone to replace former president Jared Bybee at their Aug. 8 meeting. Bybee resigned in May.
The board chose District 7 representative LaKeisha Gantt to replace Bybee in his role as president last month, but the District 4 seat remains vacant.
Applicants must live in District 4, which is bordered roughly by Baldwin and Oak streets to the north, the Loop and the North Oconee River to the east, the Middle Oconee River to the south and South Lumpkin Street to the west.
To apply, submit a letter of interest, a biographical sketch and up to two letters from supporters to the Clarke County School District at 440-1 Dearing Extension by 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1.
On Aug. 8, applicants will give five-minute presentations to the board. The board will then vote on a replacement to fill out the remainder of Bybee's term, which runs through 2020.
