The first night of The World Famous' "Sponsored by the Athens Tomato Festival" two-night run (see Threats & Promises for more) features a can't-miss set from locals Jack Logan and Scott Baxendale. Logan hit on some moderate indie success with his 1994 album Bulk—which collected 42 of the literally hundreds of tunes the songwriter had recorded to that point—but he's been relatively quiet for the better part of a decade. That is, until now. Bones in the Desert, Logan's new collaborative LP with luthier and musician Baxendale, is a swampy, sprawling thing. Logan's sly, laconic vocal delivery and Baxendale's fiery riffage combine to create an instant "cranky guitar rock" classic.
