Indie South Fair, which organizes one of the largest local artist markets biannually, presents an outdoor market and festival focused on handcrafted items and vintage wares from 30 local artisans and collectors. Highlights include high fashion vintage from Strange Magick and Fur Hat Guild, jewelry by Rhys May, outsider folk art by Chris Hubbard, curiosities collected by John Gingerich and paper works by Double Dutch Press. Acoustic performances from Jacob Morris, TS Woodward and John Fernandes & Heather Heyn are staggered throughout the afternoon, and there’s a promise of free barbecue while supplies last. After the market, the party will move next door to Max’s Sidebar for performances by Thunderchief, Onchi, Black Moon, Tom B Television, Koko Beware, Salts, The Wild Ones and Little Gold. For locals, it’s a chance to take part in another big bash before the summer winds down, and for any newcomers to town, it’s an introduction to some of the artists and musicians who help create the cultural fabric of Athens.
