There are times where the debut self-titled EP from soulful Brooklyn rockers Arc & Stones sounds like a grittier, more raucous Kings of Leon. Singer and guitarist Dan Pellarin channels Caleb Followill’s smoky, emotive vocals on “Say Goodbye,” and there are more than a few goosebump-inducing, Kings-worthy moments on the anthemic, skyscraping opening tune, "Silence." The echoing acoustic strains on "Let Me Down" augment the track’s painful life observations, but the band shifts course with the last two tracks—“She’s Mine” and “Rise”—sounding more like a blistering blues-rock group, with crunchy riffs, thunderous drums and Pellarin’s suddenly scratchy, edgy vocals. Arc & Stones is one under-the-radar band worth keeping an eye on.
