University of Georgia law professors Randy Beck and Lori Ringhand will give short presentations on the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling in its 40th anniversary year, leaving time for a moderated public discussion on an issue that continues to divide the nation. On Jan. 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Texas law criminalizing abortion, with the majority citing women's right to privacy under the 14th Amendment. It's one of the court's most famous decisions, but only 44 percent of people under 30 know about it, according to outreach archivist Jan Levinson. The discussion is part of UGA's "It Was a Big Year" series, which examines how events of 1973 affected the course of history. 6 p.m.–8 p.m. FREE!
