A tireless scene veteran who cut his teeth with San Francisco rabble-rousers The Nuns, Mexican-American songwriter and guitarist Alejandro Escovedo has enjoyed a prolific and critically adored solo career. He's also been cited as a key influence by a laundry list of younger performers over the years, though he's never quite received his just due from the music establishment. Escovedo's 2012 LP, Big Station, a solid and fun collection of shit-kicking rockers, found him in prime form. Escovedo is touring this spring with R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, a longtime friend, in tow. Buck has been no stranger to Athens of late, having performed a solo gig at the 40 Watt Club late last year and having joined the Drive-By Truckers onstage at that band's recent hometown stand.
