Nashville has churned out more than its fair share of sloppy, scrappy garage-rock bands over the past decade or so, and not all of them have been worth their weight in denim. Natural Child, however, sits at the head of the pack, a fact that the trio's latest full-length effort, Dancin' With Wolves—out now via Burger Records—makes abundantly clear. The record scales back the all-out aural assault in favor of a cannier—dare we say jammier?—'70s-aping, groove-centric sound. Fluid keys and aching pedal steel add welcome depth to the band's well established punk sensibility; the ensuing contrast between ripped-shirt bombast and dope-haze folk-rock makes for a fun and escapist listen, the perfect soundtrack to spring-into-summer.
