On display in OCAF's Main Gallery, the 19th annual "Southworks Juried Art Exhibit" features a total of 84 pieces of art from 74 local and national artists. Hundreds of applications were whittled down in an anonymous fashion by juror Ron Platt, the Hugh Kaul Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art, to present the best in painting, drawing, pottery, textile art, photography, sculpture and more. In OCAF's Members' Gallery, the Director's Choice Exhibit "Clay and Drawings: Ron Meyers and Rich Panico" highlights the work of two accomplished Athens artists. Meyers, who spent 20 years teaching at UGA where he retired as Professor Emeritus, creates functional pots from red earthenware decorated with narrative, colored slip paintings of animals like chickens, cats, rabbits and fish. Panico, a physician with 38 years of experience as a studio potter, also creates stunning portraits using pastels and is the founder of the Athens Regional Medical Center’s Mind Body Institute. Both exhibitions will be on display through Friday, May 9. This free event is from 6–9 p.m.
