Antpile
We've heard about the #emorevival; what about the #screamorevival? With melodically minded bands like American Football and The Jazz June popping back up like frowny-faced daisies after a particularly harsh winter, it's fair to assume their more strident counterparts aren't far behind. Two local groups, Nurture and Antpile, have been doing their part to make sure emotionally charged post-hardcore is not left out of the discussion—and, as a new split release proves, it shouldn’t be. Antpile's two contributions to the tape, out now on new local label Cohosh Records and highly recommended, are expansive and explosive, full of guitar pyrotechnics but with plenty of room to breathe. The sole Nurture tune, "I'll Bathe You in Jameson," starts as an uncharacteristically patient dirge but ends as a crunchy, bass-heavy fuck-off. Tuesday's show marks the kickoff of a two-week Nurture tour.
