Directed by Jorge Torres-Torres, The Life, Love & Hate is a portrait of free jazz soul figure Arthur Doyle, a saxophonist, flutist and vocalist remembered for a lifelong dedication to his craft. The film follows Doyle, who died this past January, as he performs his final three shows in New York, New Orleans and his hometown of Birmingham. The trailer reveals a quick glimpse of him in trance with Brooklyn-based avant-psych band NYMPH, which includes former Athenians Jeff Tobias, Jason Robira and Jim McHugh. Carving out a path along the music realm's outskirts, his noisy, often dissonant "free jazz soul" style combines the uninhibited experimentation of the avant-garde with an intense emotional expression developed through his background in R&B and gospel. Torress-Torress and musician Patrick Carey will be in attendance for the screening.
