Jade Poppyfield
The first of a monthlong Wednesday Go Bar residency for Macon/Athens-based experimental world-pop group Cult of Riggonia, Wednesday's show will function mainly as a chance to check out what's going on in the former Georgia capital to our south. As it turns out, Macon has become a mini-hotspot of sorts for independent-minded music; along with the surprising success of niche record shop/downtown performance space Fresh Produce, a slew of strange but compelling bands have emerged in middle Georgia, including free-jazzy Riggonia pals Gurgle Twins and solo artist Jade Poppyfield, whose droning, mind-expanding take on pastoral '60s folk calls to mind artists like Grouper, Marissa Nadler and Tiny Vipers.
