In conjunction with this week’s installment of the Wax on Wednesdays DJ series, Pittsburgh rock and roll legends The Cynics play the rooftop of the Georgia Theatre in between vinyl-only sets from crate-digging local DJs Kurt Wood and Nate from Wuxtry. Fronted by songwriter and guitarist Gregg Kostelich, The Cynics’ early music threw back to the surrealist fuzz-pop of the ‘60s and also provided a barebones prototype for the decades of scuzzed-out garage-rock that would follow. Still going strong, Kostelich—who’s also known for founding the Get Hip Recordings label—brings his crew to Athens for a must-see gig.
