We’re all aware of the handful of rock bands that put Athens on the national map in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, but often overlooked in the historical record are the dozens of other local scenesters who helped pave the way for those groups’ existence. Among the Classic City’s earliest college-rockers were Phil and the Blanks, an eccentric group of musicians (including now-legendary producer John Keane) that combined rock swagger with dance-party grooves. The band has gotten back together for various “reunion shows” every few years since the 1990s; the 2015 edition takes place at The Foundry this Friday.
